Taco’s Charleston Medley

Thursday, 31 May, 2007

I found this video on Youtube about a week or two ago after having been searching around for any Taco related videos or songs. This video features his Charleston Medley and Superphysical Resurrection. I ordered one of his best of’s, which should be coming any day now, and when it does, I’ll give it a listen and do a little review.

Life Is a Grave & I Dig It! – II

Saturday, 26 May, 2007

I did a short blog about this album a while back, but I’ve only just gotten around to purchasing it. I ordered it from Amazon a few days ago and it came it the post this morning.

First of all, there is the lineup change of course, the Sandorff brothers having left and been replaced with Troy Destroy and Andy DeMize, but even so, I think their sound is still pretty distinctive, thinking to myself on first listen – “Yeah, that’s Nekromantix”.

Now onto first impressions, bearing in mind I’ve only listened through it once, the album is good, but not as good as their previous material, however I think a few tracks stand out, for example “Horny in a Hearse” and “Panic at the Morgue”, with other tracks deviating from the norm, “Anaheim After Dark” and “Fantazma” sounding more Rockabilly and Country orientated.

Here’s the tracklisting:

01. NekroHigh
02. Horny In a Hearse
03. Life Is a Grave & I Dig it!
04. My Girl
05. Rot In Hell!
06. Voodoo Shop Hop
07. Cave Canem
08. Flowers Are Slow
09. B.E.A.S.T.
10. Anaheim After Dark
11. Fantazma
12. Panic at the Morgue
13. Out come the Batz

There is something missing from this album though, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s fast and there is always that general theme of Horror running through it, and the various licks and guitar solos shows off Troy’s awesome talent as a guitarist All in all though, I’d probably give it 7 out 10. Good, but not great.

I’ll always be a fan of Nekromantix though, having introduced me to Psychobilly in the first place with Curse of the Coffin.

There myspace page has currently three songs from the new album, NekroHigh, Rot In Hell! and Panic at the Morgue.

New Maps Of Hell Out 10th July!

Tuesday, 22 May, 2007

Bad Religion’s new album New Maps of Hell is out on 10th July 2007. Their myspace page has two songs from the new album, Honest Goodbye and Heros and Martyrs, although its the latter which I prefer, as although Honest Goodbye sounds good, I don’t think its one of the band’s best. It will probably grow on me but on first listen I wasn’t feelin’ it, although I put that down to me being in a bad mood when I heard it. Actually, now that I listen to it again, its beginning to sound alot better :)

I’m pretty excited about the album as a whole, as you can hardly judge it on just one track without hearing the rest, and besides, Bad Religion has been one of favourite punk bands for a few years now and I’m hardly going to start slagging them off.

Here’s the tracklistings from New Maps of Hell Epitaph page:

01. 52 Seconds
02. Heroes & Martyrs
03. Germs of Perfection
04. New Dark Ages
05. Requiem for Dissent
06. Before You Die
07. Honest Goodbye
08. Dearly Beloved
09. Grains of Wrath
10. Murder
11. Scrutiny
12. Prodigal Son
13. The Grand Delusion
14. Lost Pilgrim
15. Submission Complete
16. Fields of Mars

BBC Video Logo From 1985

Tuesday, 22 May, 2007

Again with the BBC, this time, the video (VHS) logo from the mid-eighties, which was displayed before and after the main feature. This is my early childhood distilled into a simple logo from an old Postman Pat video.

BBC2 Channel Idents Of The 90’s

Tuesday, 15 May, 2007

I was feeling nostalgic, and came across some old BBC2 idents from the 1990’s, in my opinion, much better than the one’s BBC2 have now. I found a particular favourite of mine, entitled “Optic” or “Optics”, which I remembered I came across a few months back, with no announcer talking over the top, however now, I cannot find that exact one, so I guess I’ll have the put up with the one below. Listen to the music, its alsmost eerie.
