RD Bodysnatcher

Since I spent the last fortnight watching all my Red Dwarf DVD’s again, I was excited to find that a new boxset is being released on 22nd October 2007 presumably called “The Bodysnatcher Collection”. Basically it contains the remastered versions of series I – III, although its the extras that I’m more interested in.

First of all – Bodysnatcher, the lost episode from series I written by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor and read by Chris Barrie, who plays Rimmer. On top of this there are four rare script extracts also written by Rob and Doug, which give a general idea of the direction series III might have gone in, these include Dad, Lister’s Father, Rimmer’s Dummy and Infinity Patrol, of which Dad is the most well known.

There are also the lengthy documentaries for series I – II and the Remastered editions and The End: The Original Assembly, which is the first cut of the very first episode that later had two-thirds of its content refilmed.

I’m still waiting on news of the movie though.

Recording Session Moved!

Friday, 27 April, 2007

Our guitarist, whom I’m now really really annoyed with cannot make it to our recording session because he’s going to a football game instead. He only tells me this when the session is set to start in under 12 hours, and although we’ve changed it to Sunday, I’m still annoyed with him for leaving it to the last minute before saying anything, and going to a game of football even. I hate football.

Recording Session Tomorrow!

My band is going to attempt to record a couple of songs, one of which, will hopefully go on a local compilation album. Since I took Music Tech at A level, I have a least some understanding of the recording process, trouble is, I only have a karaoke microphone, although I’m sure our guitarist got some recording mics for his 18th, which will be a big help.

The plan is to:-

  • Record a “Guide Track” (All of us playing around one microphone).
  • Play the Guide Track back, and record the Drums.
  • Record the two Guitars individually.
  • Record Vocals (if any).
  • Add any effects (if needed).
  • Delete the Guide Track.
  • Mixdown to mp3!

They will probably be a little sketchy, but I’m sure that if we take our time and do it right, we’ll come up with something that isn’t half bad. The only thing left for me to do today is to burn a CD with the Recording Software, so I can install it on the drummer’s computer, as his living room is where the recording will happen, clean and restring my guitar, and get all the leads and such ready, so I don’t have to rush around in the morning.

Boys From The Dwarf

RDlogoSo lately, I’ve been watching my collection of Red Dwarf DVD’s. I have all of them, Series I – VIII. I was so eager to watch them all that I got through them in a couple of days, all 52 episodes. I just love them. I was first introduced to Red Dwarf when I discovered the videotapes of series IV and V (which happen to be the best), which my father had taped off the TV in the early 90’s. I was about 5 years old when I found them in a chest (like buried treasure), and watched them religiously. Luckily, they were all realised on DVD and I snapped them up as each one came out, so now I have all of them.

There is going to be a Red Dwarf: Remastered DVD boxset out during the autumn, I may go for it, more for the extras than anything else. They are including lengthy documentaries for the first two series, which weren’t included on the original releases. Although in my opinion, the Remastered versions of series I – III just aren’t as good at the originals, see here. however if I hadn’t seen the remastered series’ when they aired around 1997, I probably wouldn’t have seen the first three series’ for a long time.

There is a movie currently in production, but nothing else can be done until they can get funding, £13 million they need. Hopefully if the movie does go ahead and is successful, then here is to Red Dwarf IX.

Here’s the Wikipedia article if you want to find out more about it.

Thing Are Gonna’ Change Around Here…

Sunday, 22 April, 2007

Firstly, its only now that I realise that I haven’t really given much thought to traffic (my blog stats confirm this, embarrisingly so) or any sort of consistent theme, and in fact, haven’t figured out a proper schedule for updating, as before now, my posts have often been pretty sporadic.

So from now on, starting sometime this week, I will be updating this blog at least once a week. I’ve even thought up a new blog title: “King Dando’s Konundrums”. I figured it sounds more like it’d be worth taking a look at than “The Innerspace”, which by now, I’m guessing there are many blogs out there with this particular name, or at least a similar one.

Until then, if you like Grim Fandango and enjoy in particular the music from the game, be sure to visit The Blue Casket for bass and guitar tabs. This is another site thats been lacking in updates recently, but I will be updating it tomorrow.
